The Grampians regional LGBTI Network was established in 2017 as a direct result of Victoria Government’s first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner, undertaking an LGBTI Equality Roadshow across rural and regional Victoria. Working with local LGBTI communities, key stakeholders and allies, the roadshow included a community workshop, dinner, and a training opportunity for medical practitioners.
One of the key identified needs was a regional action group that could consolidate and coordinate efforts across the region.
Objectives of the network:
Promote LGBTI equity and inclusion in the Grampians Pyrenees region
Develop and implement a regional LGBTI Inclusion Plan
To listen to, understand and promote consumer stories and challenges with the purpose of better developing and implementing person centred approaches
To exchange knowledge and different organisational policies and strategies
To explore challenges, provide peer support, develop and advocate for collective solutions for organisations and LGBTI+ people on the ground
To share resources, tools, access to information and unpack best practice examples
Lead organisational change and engagement
To at all times provide a safe and inclusive environment for open and honest discussion without fear of judgement or reprisal
The network meets regularly and all are welcome. For more information contact, GPPCP Integrated Care Coordinator, jo.richie@gppcp.org.au
